The Starting Line....1929

In 1929, Will Rogers was the Grand Marshall of the first ever cross-country air race for Women pilots.

They raced from Santa Monica, CA to Cleveland, OH, and each woman had to be a certified airplane mechanic with considerable flying experience.

A rarity at the time.

Final Inspection

The most unique entry was the Alexander Eaglerock Bullet.

It was the only low mono-wing entry, featured the first retractable gear, and was the only entry with an enclosed cabin built to hold four people and the family dog.

It finished second in the light engine division against the most up-to-date military aricraft of the day.

After an engine change it won the Cleveland Air Races.

Seventy eight years later, Mary Senft Hanson, an accomplished pilot and experimental aircraft builder, is resurrecting an important part of aviation history: the ground-up re-creation of the 1929 Alexander Eaglerock Bullet.

Only 11 were originally built, none survived, and the project is almost complete.
